TV Alien Kid & Dog

This is my final project for my Digital Character Sculpting class. Our job was to create a character and his/her/its companion. I've been wanting to create a dog for awhile, so I had that be my companion. I was stuck for awhile figuring out who the main character was going to be. Then one night, just playing with my dog, I ended up just staring at her for as long as I could until she moved. It took forever, she was dead still and staring right back at me. So that's where I got my inspiration for my character. Just a "kid" waiting for its dog to do something and ran away with a TV idea too. Overall I feel satisfied with how this turned out. Enjoy!

Angry Epic Beard Man

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUqFbFFycIM&feature=youtu.be

This is a link to my most recent assignment, which was to create a character emotion. My job was to create anger or an angry character. During our speed sculpt creation of this character, we were to use ZBrush to record out process of sculpting. Unfortunately, there are issues with uploading the video onto my blog so for now, all I have is the youtube link. Please click it and enjoy!

Mining Droid

Here is my finished sculpt of my third project in my Digital Character Sculpting class. Our job was to create a character based on hard edged modeling. We had a lot of freedom to create mostly whatever we wanted to. I ran with the idea of a mining droid that would use a flamethrower to melt or brittle the rock then drill. The inspiration came from the recent game Star Wars: The Old Republic and the droids within that game.

Droid Progress

Update 3/26: I still have to just paint it, but I made a lot of progress by re-creating the arms in Maya. I created a flamethrower on the left arm and a drill on the right. As well, I added in smaller details onto the model that I could not create in ZBrush. Ventilation system under the shoulders and small brace joints on the "ankles."

This is my progress for my Hard edged modeling project in which I am creating a droid or robot of sorts. It's going a bit slower than my other projects have, mainly because of trying to maintain the hard edges and changing ideas and looks for my droid every so often. One change I know I plan on is to change the look of the forearms into drills instead of the guns I planned on putting into the slots. I never really felt like my droid would look right with guns on it. Anyway, I would say I'm just about to get into the nitty-gritty details of robots and hard edges.

Tribal ZBrush Sculpture

Here is my tribal character for my digital sculpting class done in the software ZBrush. Our job was to create a "Tribal" character in more of an animated or pixar style instead of realistic. I feel pretty good about how it turned out, especially since it's my first sculpt of a human body with so minimal clothing and fatness. Enjoy....

Here is my finished sculpt of my Flying Leech. I'm pretty satisfied with how it turned out as it was my first time trying to create wings in ZBrush and fully using ZBrush to paint my sculpt.

Here is the youtube like as well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jYs7B2EZ3U

Updates

Under a few of my tabs, I have been busy with my digital sculpting class. That is where I will keep most of my work shown on my blog. I will post on this main page to update when I add to it. They have been there for a week or more, but I'll make it known this way to keep everyone up to date.

So far I have done a quick sculpt of Ian McKellen, yes Gandolf and Magneto. Also I posted the day one sculpt when we had free play just to make whatever we wanted. Yesterday's class we were assigned to work on fixing the insert hand tool to make the hand more realistic. Only allowed about 30 mins to work on it.

Hello, I'm Ryan Staniszewski, a student at College for Creative Studies Studies (CCS) in Detroit, MI. This blog is mainly dedicated to my digital sculpting class for the Winter 2012 semester. All the work will be done in ZBrush, the widely used digital sculpting software. I will also show not only the final pieces, but sketches and references for my projects.

My first project is to create an alien bug....and here we, go!
